Have a favorite shirt that has stain that won't come out, but you can't get rid of it?! Let's turn those faults into fashion! Rework a stained shirt into a unique, hand-embroidered piece.
We are so excited to welcome Kati of Kate and Rose, to teach an embroidery workshop on how to artistically cover up our stains. Details below!
When: Saturday July 20th | 12:30pm - 3pm
Where: maison apres | 101 Abeel Street Kingston NY 12401
Learn to use embroidery to give new life to a beloved-button down ruined by a coffee or ink stain!
You can either thrift a shirt that has a bit of damage, fix a beloved garment with a stain - or we can provide a stained (but otherwise clean!) thrifted piece to practice on and take home.
We will learn a few free-hand embroidery stitches and practice them on scrap fabric, then tackle our garments’ stains. We will discuss what kinds of thread or yarn to use for different types of fabrics. Bring your own thread if you have some, or use some of ours, many of which are leftovers from local production weavers or spinners, or even threads left over from cut pieces of upholstery fabric. We will use folkwear embroidery techniques and motifs from different parts of the world. We will discuss some of the history and meanings behind them as well as how they were historically used, connecting our work towards sustainably salvaging existing clothing pieces with the working hands of women in the past who kept their families clothed and warm with their creative work.
